Trip Information

When it comes to fly fishing for trout, South Island NZ is as good as it gets.  Coupled with the new Kingfish flats fishery, this will be a trip to remember.

Hosted by Josh from Aussie Fly Fisher, the trip is in collaboration with NZ Guide, Anton Donaldson. Anton’s guide team are the only Kingfish guides based on the South Island, and also specialise in back-country trout.

PROGRAM

There are two trips on offer with a maximum of four anglers per group, and two local NZ guides:

TRIP 1 – Sunday 11th February – Monday 19th February

TRIP 2 – Monday 19th February – Tuesday 27th February.

The first three days, based in Collingwood, are dedicated to Kingfish. Golden Bay has a large expanse of fishing locations, so each day the group will be split into pairs with one allocated guide.

The Kingfish fishery is quite possibly the most exciting in the world. A large expanse of flats ranging from ankle to waist deep offer great sight-fishing opportunities. Typically, the Kingfish follow the stingrays in the area, making them easy to see. We have also caught many fish from free-swimming schools, single cruising fish and fish tailing in the shallows. The flats are predominantly sand only, so when you hook up, be prepared to see plenty of backing.

The fourth day of our trip is an allocated rest or recreation day. Those who would like to head off to the beach for an extra morning of Kingfish are welcome to do so. We will have lunch in Collingwood, and make our way to Murchison in the afternoon.

Days five to seven are dedicated to trout fishing in the stunning district around Murchison. Famous for it’s large trout and picturesque scenery, this will be an all-rounded dry fly fishing experience.

Meals range from café-style breakfasts, home cooked, hearty restaurant and pub meals, breakfasts & dinners have been organised as part of your trip.

Lunches are provided each day by your guide.

Non-alcoholic beverages are provided. Alcohol is BYO and can be easily acquired in both Collingwood and Murchison.

Accommodation is based on twin share rooms.
