Trout in beautiful mountain streams & Iconic Murray cod on fly
North-East Victoria hosts some of Australia’s most iconic streams, in the midst of picturesque scenery, with a plethora of willing trout & Murray cod.
Once again we will be joining local guide Cameron McGregor, from River Escapes, for a fantastic week in the Victorian highlands.
This will be our fifth hosted trip with the River Escapes team, and it continues to be a very popular trip at an affordable price.
April is a fantastic time to fish the streams in this area, and to make the best of both the trout and clear water Murray cod fisheries. The week is split between drifting the Ovens River in Cam’s fully equipped drift boat, as well as wading the beautiful streams in the surrounds such as the Ovens, Kiewa, Buckland Rivers and a few local secrets. One day is also spent on Lake Mulwala chasing Murray cod.
Previous trips average 100-120 trout landed over the four days by the group of four anglers. Average size is 0.5-3 pounds, brown and rainbow trout. Murray cod are more elusive, with the average catch being one to three fish per angler.
Accommodation is provided at the comfortable ‘River Escapes’ B&B, along with hearty home cooked meals.
The trip will consist of four days fly fishing, split between the local trout and Murray cod rivers close to the stunning town of Bright, Victoria. There will be a combination of: walk and wade streams, float-raft fishing on the larger rivers, and boat on Lake Mulwala. Highlights of the area include rivers such as the Ovens, Mitta Mitta, Kiewa, King, and Buckland.
