Trip Information
The “Land of a Thousand Lakes.”
Originally constructed as a training camp for Antarctic expeditioners, Thousand Lakes Lodge is situated at the doorstep to the Western Lakes wilderness area made famous for its world class brown trout fishing where guests have the opportunity to challenge their ability to spot, stalk, read, cast and ultimately capture these trophy brown trout.
Guests have access to fish the vast lake systems scattered throughout the Western Lakes Wilderness area with a variety of options including those easily accessible by 4WD, by e-bike or remote lakes accessible only by foot, knowing the comforts of the lodge awaits them.
Since 1864, brown trout have flourished all over the island. The success of natural recruitment, makes it one of the wildest remaining strains of brown trout in the world.
