Trip Information
Tierra del Fuego, “the Land of Fire,” is reminiscent of Wyoming or the Scottish low country. Sparsely populated wilderness, large sheep farming estancias, wild herds of llama-like Guanacos, plentiful red fox populations and soaring condors.
Here lies the Rio Grande, home to the best wild sea-run brown trout fishery in the world and Villa Maria Lodge. Located only a few miles upstream from the South Atlantic granting guests the first opportunity to capture these incredible animals as they migrate up into the rivers every year.
If you want a trophy sea-run brown trout, this is the place to go.
From there, our intrepid travellers may venture further north-west into the Santa Cruz Province, changing tact and targeting world class brook trout amongst some of the finest spring creeks and meandering streams on offer in Southern Patagonia.
Aussie Fly Fisher Travel is proud to host this exclusive trip during peak season in January 2025.

Vast, open alpine landscapes with iconic big open rivers running through its veins, Southern Patagonia is devastatingly beautiful at every turn.
This massive region, famed for its glaciers and jagged mountain peaks, sprawls across approximately 400,000 square miles of Chile and Argentina. Patagonia occupies roughly half the landmass of each country and is one of the least densely populated regions on the planet. Here, you’ll feel like you’re truly at “the end of the earth.”
Our bespoke Patagonian tour allows us to explore two vast regions, starting with the Rio Grande in Tierra Del Fuego, home to the best wild sea-run brown trout fishery in the world and Villa Maria Lodge is located only a few miles upstream from the South Atlantic sea affording guests with first opportunity to capture these incredible animals as they migrate up into the rivers every year.
From there, Guests have the opportunity to extend their journey with the addition of Estancia Rio Pelke, where guests enjoy private access to the 5 best Brook and Brown trout rivers in the Santa Cruz Province. This segment of the tour requires anglers to change strategy, swapping out double handers for your 4 or 5 weight, accessing spring creeks with dry flies and streamers in crystal clear tight quarters.
